The Industry Challenge
New regulations or more stringent existing regulations are emerging and might require specific treatment in the near future.
Traces of contaminants of danger to human health and of ecological concern have been detected in surface waters and wastewater. Non-readily biodegradable contamination typically includes pharmaceutically active compounds (PhACs) and personal care products (PCPs) that are called “micro-pollutants” or “Contaminants of Emerging Concern”. Most of these compounds are not easily biodegradable. Surfactants from cleaning and hygiene products can also be included among these.
